# Proxmox storage management with real disk usage

NexoVirt shows the storage behind every Proxmox node and guest: capacity and content per node, and for each VM the real used space per drive instead of only its provisioned size. Directory, NFS and SMB/CIFS storages are added from the panel.

## What it does

Storage per node, real per-drive usage in guests, directory, NFS and SMB.

- ### Real usage per drive

With the QEMU guest agent, each VM shows used and total space per filesystem, Windows drive letters included. Without it, the provisioned size.
- ### Storage per node

Capacity, usage and content per node on the node page, for every host in the panel.
- ### Directory, NFS and SMB

Add and manage datacenter storages without switching to the Proxmox UI.
- ### Extra disks at create

Add disks on any storage in the create wizard: SCSI disks for VMs, mount points for containers.

## Why not just use the Proxmox web UI?

Proxmox VE runs the virtualization. NexoVirt adds the layer around it. Storage management, task by task:

| Task | Proxmox web UI | NexoVirt |
|---|---|---|
| How full is a VM disk? | Provisioned size only | Used space per filesystem via the guest agent |
| Second disk for a new VM | Hardware tab after creation | Additional disks step in the wizard |
| Storage on several hosts | One host UI at a time | Each node page, all hosts in one panel |

## How to use it

Up and running in 3 steps, all in the panel.

1. Open a node's page to see its storages and content.
2. Add a directory, NFS or SMB storage from the panel.
3. Use it as a target when you create guests or add disks.

## Storage management FAQ

Why does Proxmox not show how full a VM disk is?Proxmox sees a VM disk from the outside, so it reports the provisioned size. The used space lives inside the guest's filesystem, and NexoVirt reads it through the QEMU guest agent.
