Proxmox SDN made simple: one network per project

Proxmox SDN made simple: NexoVirt turns it into project networks. You define a network template once, and each new project gets its own VNet and subnet carved from it, with automatic IP assignment and optional DHCP, ready to pick in the create wizard.

What it does

SDN templates and projects: a VNet, subnet and IP pool per project.

  • See the SDN you have

The SDN tab on a host's networking page lists the cluster's zones, VNets, subnets and controllers. A host without SDN simply shows that none is configured.

  • Network templates

A template sets the zone type (simple, VLAN, QinQ, VXLAN or EVPN), a supernet, the subnet size per project, the gateway, SNAT and DHCP. Saving a template changes nothing on Proxmox.

  • A VNet per project

A new project gets its own VNet and the next free subnet from its template, created and applied in the background, with a status and a Retry button.

  • IPs assigned automatically

Every project network has its own IP pool, so new guests get the next free address, or DHCP hands one out.

  • DHCP that respects the node

With DHCP on, the agent installs and enables dnsmasq for the zone only if it is missing. If a dnsmasq already runs on the node, it is left alone and the project uses static IPs.

Why not just use the Proxmox web UI?

Proxmox VE runs the virtualization. NexoVirt adds the layer around it. SDN projects, task by task:

How to use it

Up and running in 4 steps, all in the panel.

  1. Open a host's Networking page and the SDN tab to see what already exists.

  2. Create a network template in Networking, SDN templates.

  3. Create a project in Networking, Projects. Its VNet and subnet are set up in the background.

  4. In the create wizard, pick the project network as the guest's bridge.
